Thai herbs for winter

          Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia. A year in Thailand is divided into three seasons: summer, rainy, and winter. The average annual temperature is kept at 30 degrees. Summer runs from mid–February until mid–May, when the average temperature in the region of 29-38 degrees. The rainy season is from June to October, which is caused by southwestern wind from the Indian Ocean. The country receives a mean annual rainfall of 1,200 to 1,600 mm. At this time a lot of sunny day and the rain are short, the temperature is about 26-32 degrees. Winter occurs from mid–October until mid–February, when the temperature averages from 19 to 30 degrees. Therefore, winter is the season in Thailand now.

          The rapid weather changes from rainy to winter can cause an imbalance in human, resulting in a susceptibility to illness. Cooler weather can exacerbate phlegm, causing allergic reactions, nasal congestion, coughing, runny nose, chills, shivering, and low-grade fever. Thus, Thai herbs (Ginger, Galangal, Lemon grass, Kaffir lime, Lemon, and Shallot), which can be used to protect or reduce these symptoms are interested in this article.

          Raw ginger is 79% water, 18% carbohydrates, 2% protein, and 1% fat. Both inflammation and congestion in the winter can be relieved with ginger.           Lemons are a good source of vitamin C. One 58 gram lemon can provide over 30 milligrams of vitamin C. Therefore, lemons can be act as an immunity booster.     

          A raw shallot is 80% water, 17% carbohydrates, 2.5% protein and contains negligible fat. Shallots are rich in compounds with antioxidant activity, such as quercetin, kaempferol, and allicin. Antioxidants are compounds that help protect cells from becoming damaged by free radicals.
