ANALYZING WORD PARTS VIA ONLINE APPLICATION HELPS DEVELOPING VOCABULARY DATA

Abstract

Stahl & Fairbanks, (1986) conducted the research and showed that vocabulary was correlated with reading comprehension and academic achievement. National Center for Education Statistics, (2012) analyzed the relationship between knowledge of word meaning and comprehension on the NAEP reading assessments and it indicated that vocabulary continues to be prognostic of reading achievement. Achara Chuenjai and Yutthasak Chuenchaichon, (2016) conducted the research: Study of the Comparison of Learning Achievements of Vocabulary by Using with and without Prefixes in English Classroom showed that learning vocabulary by using prefixes had positive impact on learning vocabulary. Consequently, teaching how to analyze word parts helps increase vocabulary data for students and also enhances their literacy development as well as prepare them for successful readers in the future. Analyzing word parts is the way to study about affixes (prefixes and suffixes) and common roots from Greek and Latin to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words. Importantly, today online applications about affixes and roots are useful and easily access to the readers.
